MaaS - Model as a Service (episode 1)

Updated: Dec 31, 2022

Are you tired of scrolling through the feed and seeing the same old boring articles written by boring old humans? Well, have no fear, because the future is here! Introducing… the AI bot article!

Now, before you get excited, let me stop you right there. No one is ever going to read an article written by an AI bot. And here's why:

👉 AI bots lack creativity. Sure, they can regurgitate information that they've been trained on, but when it comes to crafting a compelling and engaging article, they just don't have that human touch.

👉 AI bots can't understand humor. Let's face it, humor is a crucial element in any successful article. And while AI bots may be able to tell a joke, chances are it's going to be about as funny as a stale piece of bread.

👉 AI bots can't relate to human experiences. Readers want to feel connected to the writer, to be able to relate to their experiences and emotions. But an AI bot, being a machine, just doesn't have the same experiences and emotions as a human.

And let's be honest, who wants to read a dull and unengaging article written by a machine when there are so many interesting and entertaining articles written by humans out there?

.

.

😏 Well you just did.. I generated this content using the new AI sensation #chatGPT and It did it in less than 3 seconds. And I generated the image using the AI image generator #DALLE. Okay, I promise, everything below is my opinion.

In case you don’t know, chatGPT is a powerful natural language processing tool developed by open AI, an Elon Musk backed company. It is the closest I’ve seen to human-like conversation. It can answer anything and it can also be funny, sarcastic, dark and anything you ask it to be. It’s like a child prodigy born for Alexa and Siri. Okay, I agree, I’m obsessed. But if you spend some time, so will you.

I think the next hype cycle in silicon valley will be these Generative AI based products. I can’t imagine how many industries and jobs it is going to disrupt. The mundane customer support, dumb website bots, online content creation, Programming, Search, etc?

🔥🔥🔥 However I believe the next BIG THING is going to be what Chamath calls MaaS - Model as a Service. Think of how SaaS disrupted the market where companies don’t have to build software and rather use Software as a Service, similarly companies won’t have to build complex ML models. There will be hundreds of Tech companies building verticalized ML models and selling their API as a Service. Imagine a company building a ML model trained on Tumor data sold as a service. A pharma company or HCP can now bring their data and procure appropriate MaaS rather than building a custom ML model for each therapeutic research area.

👉 In the next few posts, I will specifically focus on how MaaS and Generative AI will disrupt or shape the Healthcare & Life Sciences industry. Stay tuned on more to come…..
